Configuring 2504 Wireless Controller Using WEB GUI Objective: Using Cisco Packet-Tracer: Please work individually a) 2504 Controller initialization This Lab is out of 3 marks b) Controller GUI navigation and administration Equipment: Cisco Packet-Tracer version 7.3.1 Lab Scenario: In most residential wireless installations there is one Home router to configure as an Access Point (AP). In larger installations there may be several APs, each with a basic operating system, similar configurations and special features. The APs may be in different rooms, mounted on ceilings or in remote locations. To minimize the time to travel to each AP and perform individual configurations, a network based appliance is used to simplify the job. The Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) appliance is used to configure, administer and manage several APs from one location. This Lab introduces Cisco 2504 controller commonly used in small enterprise installations. In this lab you will practice: Using a WEB interface to initialize the controller Use a secure WEB interface (HTTPS) to explore the controller capabilities Build Physical Network: 1. Start with a blank Packet Tracer workspace 2. Drag a PC into the Work Space and then the Cisco 2504 Controller. 3. Connect Ethernet Port 0 of the PC to the Controller Port 2 4. The Controller is using a default Web Address 192.168.1.1 as specified by Cisco 5. Assign a static IP Address to the PC in the same subnet (for example 192.168.1.2). 6. You may want to check the connection by ping 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.1 PC-PT Admin PC WLC-2504 Wireless LAN Controller Initialize the Controller: 1. From the PC, open desktop Web Browser and enter the WLC address 192.168.1.1. The green lights on the Ethernet link will flicker for a while and you will see the following screen: Web Browser URL 192.168.1.1 CISCO VLAN: Management VLAN DHCP Server: Leave it blank for now 5. Leave everything as they are and Click Next. The Controller will show you your current configuration. If your configuration is correct then Click Save and Apply. You will see "Saving the configuration...." Message. Wait for a few seconds and close the Web Browser desktop application (else this window will display indefinitely). 1 Controller Setting Username admin System Name Humber WLC Country United States (US) Date & Time 09/29/2020 14:59:32 Timezone Eastern Time (US and Canada) NTP Server Cisco 2500 Series Wireless LAN Controller Management IP Address 192.168.100.10 Management IP Subnet255.255.255.0 Management IP Gateway 192.168.100.1 Management VLAN IDO 2 Wireless Network Settings Employee Network 2. Create an Admin account on the Controller; Enter the User name: admin Password: Humbert, Confirm the Password and Click Start 3. The controller will now ask you to enter some basic configuration parameters. Fill out the following: System Name: Enter "HumberWLC" Management IP Address: Enter 192.168.100.10 Subnet Mask: Enter 255.255.255.0 Management Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1 Click "Next" 4. Create a Wireless Network for Employees. In our case it will be a Student Network for Wirele: udents registered in NEST209 Course. Note that it is possible to also create a Guest network at a later time. Network Name: NEST209 (no space and remember it is case sensitive). This is the SSID of your Student Wireless Network. Security: WPA2 Personal (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 Pre-Shared Keys) Passphrase: password 1 Network Name NEST209 Security WPA2 Personal Passphrase: Employee VLAN Management VLAN DHCP Server Address x Guest Network Advanced Settings RF Parameter Optimization Virtual IP Address 1920.2.1 Local Mobility Group Default Controller GUI: 1. You have changed the IPv4 addressing of the WLC from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.100.1. Your network is now on 192.168.100.0/24 subnet. On the admin PC, you will have to change the static IP address as well. The WLC management address is 192.168.100.10. 2. Open the Web Browser on the admin PC. Use the following URL https://192.168.100.10 to get the WLC login screen: Login using admin user id and password. If you get an error message, try using admin without a password. URL https://192.168.100.10 Go Stop CISCO Wireless LAN Controller Welcome! Please click the login button to enter your user name and password Login 3. Once you Login, you are going to see the MONITOR dashboard. The dashboard gives you a high level view of the APs and client associations. Take a screenshot of your MONITOR screen. 4. Explore WLANs tab screens. Click on WLAN ID 1. Select Security Layer 2 tab and take a screenshot Take a screen shot of your Packet Tracer window. Make sure the picture shows your logical network and the WLC MONITOR screen. Submit only JPEG (JPG) or PDF formatted screenshots with your assignment.
